Today I took inventory on their intentions for 2010– who was staying in class and who wants to be a 2010 editor. Far fewer appear to be taking an open 4th than we had hoped.

The juniors and sophomores worked on recruiting posters.

Everyone else worked on the next to last set of proofs.

Yearbook Final Deadline +1

As the tradition goes the yearbook editors were not even allowed in the room during yearbook period on the day after the final deadline.

We wound up playing games the entire period. Some of Zoe's wacky games that I never can figure out. It's all in how you sell them.

Reese also called during the period to tell us the plant had not received four pdfs that we thought we had sent. Kelsey came in and took care of that and I think all is well now.

(42/317) FINAL DEADLINE: Week Twenty Eight (r16): Day One Hundred Thirty Three: Tuesday, March 24, 2009
The Final Ascent

The FINAL DEADLINE

We worked last night until 10:15 and we are closing in on our last 21 layouts. The plan is to finish at 20:09 and then head over to Il Forno Classico for dinner. Some time in the fall they realized if they finished at 8:09 the sign could read 08-09, but even better that if they used military time the sigh would read: 20 : 09. So from that moment on we were destined to finish at 20:09 on March 24. they also were very determined to finish before the march 26 anniversary date.

Work on the 2009 sign begins

Throughout the morning we began to discover that some of the names we thought we had tagged didn't read in the index so we began double checking and hand indexing.

That Shelby face.

Zoe, editor in chief, signs first.

What a moment.

Week Twenty Eight: Day One Hundred Thirty Two: Monday, March 23, 2009

Week Twenty Eight: Day One Hundred Thirty Two: Monday, March 23, 2009

Today is the final push.

21 spreads to go.

We finally got the index were I hoped it would be on Saturday. Still need to finish the colophon. But we do have the pictures selected. Now for the captions.

All spreads are close except yearbook. Hmmmmmmmmm.

We left at 10:15 p.m.

Week Twenty Seven: Saturday (16), March 21, 2009

Week Twenty Seven: Saturday (16), March 21, 2009

Today is the final Saturday. But there is a long way to go.

I started the day with a meeting at EPC at seven to make our final decision. I bought bagels before the meeting at Noah's and still was able to get to school by 9.

The last two day have been very warm and springlike, but today has turned cloudy and windy.

Zoe, Kelsey, Lauren, Shelby, and Kim are here but it's 9:50 and still no Ellen. Typical. She finally arrived at 10:30 and then we had to rehash the senior Sport-a-Rama victory for another 15 minutes.

It is slow moving.

21 layouts left. It's 1:09.

We just saw the first one of four spring sports left.

They took an hour break to get Jamba and to shoot some trends stuff at Lauren's I got layout number 2 (drama) at 3:15.

I have had a great day correcting all my papers.

Zoe is in the weeds.

We had dinner. Jeannine Thomas brought dinner. Ravioli Lasagne surprise. yumm.

It's now 6:42. I have seen three sports spreads, but the captions are almost all definitely CRAPTIONS.

It's now 8:45

We continue to work toward the final 42 pages, but at about 11 got an email from Vera that informed us that Laura Ling from the  class of 1994 had been captured by the North Koreans at the Chinese border. She was working for current.com doing reporting there.

By the end of the day I had been interviewed by both KCRA and KXTV.

Week Twenty Seven: Day One Hundred Twenty Seven: Monday, March 16, 2009

Today is our next to last deadline. Looks like we will be sending 26 pages and bring the total of 275. This will mean we have 44 pages to go in exactly seven days.

We had a little oops. when we tried to PDF one of the spreads we did not have the correct jpegs and so it wouldn't pdf properly. We decided to hold it for the next deadline.

Reese came at four and we were out of there a little after 5.

Happy 87th birthday mom.

Week Twenty Six: Saturday (15), March 14, 2009

Week Twenty Six: Saturday (15), March 14, 2009
Today we were working together like a REAL yearbook staff. The machine was well-oiled and chugging along.

Our mission was to finish as much of spring sports as possible. We have approximately 70 pages to go and our goal is to send another 30 pages on Monday when Reese comes.

Along with the editors Zoe, Lauren, Kelsey, Shelby, Ellen, and Kim a huge bunch of staffers were actually in and working.

Delaney, Dustin, Madeline, Steven, Kailey, Jessie, Sarah N., Stacy, Phil, Allie, Josh, Hannah (12)

Girls' Soccer was actually finished yesterday as were the Varsity Baseball stories. Good work Stacy and Maddie. Swim and Dive finished next along with Boys' Tennis. Boys' Golf finished both stories on Saturday. The current trouble areas are JV Baseball, JV Softball secondary, and both Varsity Softball stories.

Allie Bell stayed and actually finished the Track and Field story. (Good job)

However some never showed up and others cut out too early.

It reminds me of the age-old yearbook maxim. Yearbook Doesn't Build Character. It Reveals It. Some people's character didn't come out too well today. But more important the character of many shone through,

The AVID BBQ was today and Shelby and Kim went to take JV Softball photos at Laguna Creek in Elk Grove..

They left for a Jamba Break at around 5.

Jamba–dinner of yearbook Champions

We left about 8:15 after it was clear we had runout of gas. Hopefully Lauren isn't getting sick. We are close, but not close enough. Monday will definitely be interesting.

Today is a crazy day. The ad section is swelling so we may actually have over 100 pages to go.

Lauren is here. Ellen came a little late but has to go to work at 1
. Kelsey has still not arrived as she is at Med 7 getting her toe looked at, but she has to go to work at 2:30. Zoe came at almost ten after going by the garage sale.

Shelby and Kim are at the track meet at Bella Vista.

We got a few ads done. Even Phil got one done. Lauren is working on four spreads, but I'm not sure about the fifth. Zoe is “close” to finishing two. They are claiming that they will have 30 pages for Tuesday. We will see.
